Charles Darrow was an unemployed salesman and inventor living in Germantown, PA who was struggling with odd jobs to support his family in the years following the great stock market crash of 1929. Remembering his summers spent in Atlantic City, NJ Darrow drew the streets of Atlantic City on his kitchen tablecloth in his spare time and found pieces of material to form little hotels, houses and other tokens for a game. Family and friends began playing his game and soon Darrow was manufacturing it and selling it for $4. As it gained in popularity, Parker Brothers contacted Darrow and purchased the rights to make & sell it, eventually making Darrow a millionaire!
